A.EI.M.A. provides turn-key Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and trigeneration solutions, from engineering and equipment supply to installation, commissioning and long-term technical support.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the simultaneous production of electrical power and recoverable heat from a single fuel source.
In a gas-engine CHP plant, electricity is produced by the generator, while heat is recovered from the engine cooling circuits and exhaust gases and transferred to the installation’s heating or process system.
This allows CHP to achieve high overall efficiency by utilizing energy that would otherwise be rejected to the environment.
CHP is particularly suitable for installations with simultaneous and sustained electrical and thermal demand.
Where installation also has a significant cooling demand, CHP can be extended to trigeneration.
In a trigeneration system, part of the thermal energy recovered from the CHP plant is used to produce cooling, typically through an absorption chiller. The same system provides Electricity • Heat • Cooling.
Trigeneration allows useful thermal energy to be utilized not only during periods of heating demand, but also for cooling applications, extending the potential use of the CHP system throughout the year.
It can be particularly suitable for applications such as hospitals, hotels and large commercial or institutional facilities, where electrical, heating and cooling demands coexist.
CHP and trigeneration systems are particularly suited to applications with simultaneous and sustained requirements for electricity, heat and, where applicable, cooling.
Greenhouses can benefit from the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, while appropriately treated exhaust gases can also provide CO₂ for crop fertilization. A.EI.M.A. has extensive experience in large-scale greenhouse CHP installations, including multi-engine plants and dedicated configurations designed around the operating requirements of modern greenhouse facilities.
Industrial facilities with continuous electrical demand and requirements for process heat, hot water or heating can achieve high overall energy efficiency through CHP. The system is engineered around the specific electrical and thermal profile of each production process.
Hotels combine electrical demand with substantial requirements for domestic hot water, heating and cooling, making CHP and trigeneration suitable where these loads remain sufficiently consistent throughout the operating period.
In industrial applications, the thermal energy recovered from a CHP plant can be used to support steam production or other process-heat requirements. Depending on the project configuration, exhaust-gas heat and engine heat recovery can be integrated with the plant’s thermal system to improve overall fuel utilization and support the process energy demand.
CHP and trigeneration can also be applied to universities, hotels, hospitals, sports facilities and other institutional or commercial buildings with significant combined electrical, heating and cooling requirements.
A.EI.M.A.’s experience includes applications in universities, hospitals, and major sports facilities in Greece.
